March 21 evening

On the technical front, we have a lot of news! sorry for not posting the past two days but the initiative went viral in Colombia and has been growing exponentially. We now have three teams organized under the InnspiraMED initiative in Colombia working on separate designs, there is another design team from the EIA that is working on creating their own version. Another pneumatic version. As soon as I have their schematics I will share them with you.

Spanish Version:

The concept now cycles and we hope to connect it to a lung simulator soon, we hope to share more with you in the next post. This team is also designing a combined PEEP/Expiratory valve that we expect to use in all of the designs we use!! I want to take a chance to thank Leon Dario Jimenez from EMCO for being the ventilation expert and coming up with all of these concepts! It's very important to note that this expiratory valve will replace the Ambu valve on the mechanical design as well because we figured out that moving this valve proximal to the patient reduces the negative pressure on the valve on deflation of the Ambu bag and the valve doesn't open and it will overinflate the lungs. Therefore we're going to use the same expiratory valve/ peep system from the design above on the mechanical system as well to finish the patient circuit. This is very important. The other thing we found out on the mechanical system was that the motor and belts we used we insufficient. We have greatly uprated the motor and transmission to double the torque and I will share the specs with you as soon as they are available.

All three designs are now cycling and we will work with a lung simulator on all of them to try and polish the control.

In terms of electronic architecture, there are two architectures being evaluated. One where the Arduino will connect to an android tablet or phone and transmit the clinical data that way and another one where the control of the system is done by the Arduino and the comms and the interface is handled by a raspberry pi via wifi to any mobile device or PC for patient monitoring.

The teams are working well and hard to make this a reality and the whole Colombian business community is giving this their all so we can make and scale as many ventilators as possible. We're also looking at ways to sharing the data and document more in real-time but as of now, we've been focused on getting everything together and making the systems work and safe.

Thanks for all the cooperation.

Excelente iniciativa.
